May 12, we left Madison and drove back to Hwy. 50 in
the early morning cool of a spring morning. Out first destination was
the Cincinnati Airport to drop Bob Williams for his return trip to his home
in Huntley, IL. On our way through southern Indiana toward Ohio, we
saw two deer crossing the highway. Bob, riding shotgun, pointed out
the first and I slowed, making sure it safely crossed, I would have hit a
second deer following if Bob had not pointed it out as well.
Since the Cincinnati Airport is in Kentucky, we get to count KY as another
state on our journey. The only pictures I took in those few minutes
were of the Anderson Ferry, which is near the airport and is the quicketst
way to get back to Hwy. 50 in Southern Ohio. This was quite a unique
sight, similar to a Ohio River ferry my folks used to take me on east of
Madison, IN, when we'd go on day trips to KY when I was a kid.
I asked the ferry attendant how many people they carried
and he replied, "200 to 300 a day, 700 last Sunday."
We have a similar ferry in Balboa Island, Orange County, California, near
our home. It goes across Balboa Bay between the island and penninsula,
dodging boats in Newport Harbor, the biggest non-commercial harbor in the
US.
