NEON

Nevada, with it's long-standing gambling history, and abundance of electricity from water powered generators, is a favorite place of mine to photograph neon signs.

Las Vegas

Of course the Big Daddy of Neon Signs is Las Vegas.  While at a car show in downtown Las Vegas, 5/18/2006, The Fremont Experience, I was delighted to find a side street devoted to historic neon signs from Las Vegas, preserved, lighted, and with historical markers.

I guess all cities have abundant classic neon .  I haven't been to Portland, OR, much, except on the Amtrak Coast Starlight.  The train stops in Portland for a few minutes each trip to set out Amtrash and change crews.  I've found some interesting neon in the station on these short train stops, 5/9/2006.

On the same Amtrak Coast Starlight trip as above, my destination was Seattle, Washington.  Upon arriving at my hotel about midnight, I noticed the classic neon red sign out front.  The next evening,  5/10/2006, I shot these photos of neon within walking distance of the hotel.

Also within walking distance of the Best Western Pioneer Square Hotel is the Washington State Ferry to Bainbridge, Island, and other wharf businesses.  These shots were taken 5/10/2006 between 7:30 pm and 8:30 pm.
